Spring is here! That can only mean more fun events are taking place in Louisville like hikes, performances, Easter parades, and the start of the Derby season. Here’s our April guide to family-friendly events in Louisville!


Sleeping Beauty at the Louisville Ballet

Here We Grow! Take and Make

Learn how flowers grow with this children’s take-and-make kit which includes a flower pot with seeds, stickers, and other family fun idea. Available while supplies last.


Touring Pegasus Parade

First Sunday Nature Hike: Weeds and Wildflowers

Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest (2075 Clermont Rd, Clermont, KY)

April 3; 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm

Join a Volunteer Naturalist for an engaging nature hike on the first Sunday of each month. These hikes are longer than our ECO Kids Hike of the Day and are aimed primarily at adults, but children 6 years and up are welcome. No pets allowed. We ask that all visitors bring masks in case social distancing is not possible throughout the hike.

Once Upon an Orchestra

The Library Foundation, Brown-Forman Foundation, and the Friends of the Library present Once Upon an Orchestra at the Louisville Free Public Library. Families are invited to join Louisville Orchestra ensembles for a fun, interactive storytelling through music performance. Participants of all ages will enjoy a 60-minute program that weaves together storytelling adventures with creative music making. We’ll even show you how to make instruments from recycled materials and you will get to take home your very own instrument!

Ages: 2 – 5 with an adult Hours: 9:30 – 11 a.m. Pricing (adult & child pair): $25 Members: / $45 Nonmembers (includes Zoo admission) Join us for this program specifically designed for young minds! Enjoy an early morning guided walk through the Zoo while looking at animals related to the week’s theme, followed by play time in the Cub House presented by PNC. This event includes a story reading, a craft, free play and age appropriate activities.

Open course cycling event with three distances for beginners to experienced cyclists. New this year a 1 to 3-mile Family Ride option at Waterfront Park. With staggered starts based on distance: 62.1 Metric Century, 8 a.m.; 35-mile ride, 8:15 p.m.; 20-mile ride, 8:30 a.m.

Thunderblast at the Kentucky Science Center

It’s BACK! Skip the crowds at Kentucky Science Center’s ThunderBlast, our largest annual family-friendly event during Thunder Over Louisville. With some of the best views in town for airplanes and fireworks plus fun-filled activities to keep the kids entertained, exclusive food trucks, clean indoor bathrooms, and exciting happenings inside and out, you and the family are guaranteed to have a BLAST!

Bernheim Run for the Planet

Bernheim is excited to host the Bernheim Run for the Planet to benefit Bernheim’s mission, connecting people with nature. Runners will experience a timed trail run through Bernheim’s scenic 13.75-mile Millennium Trail, Bernheim’s longest trail, which winds through oak-hickory forests to valleys and streams of beech-maple forests.


Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone at Kentucky Science Center
