My son has those cute little underwear briefs with dinosaurs and the days of the week on them. Today is Tuesday, and he wore the undies that said “Thursday” on them. I glanced and then noticed he was not wearing the correct day on his undies and had a fleeting thought, “Should I change them?” (face in palm) and then I laughed and thought NO! Sometimes that Mom Pressure gets to us and takes over in silly insignificant ways like the days of the week undies. In this post, I’m sharing 5 ways to handle mom pressure.
Mom Pressure creeps in, in other areas as well. You know what I mean – the pressure; you feel it in your head and your chest. Some of the things that work you up are important, some not so much, and we have to first decipher what is truly important. Days of the week undies, wearing your Thursday pair on a Tuesday, is not a big deal.
From packing lunches to packing diaper bags to grocery shopping to washing clothes and making sure your kids have clothes and shoes that fit, they are all important jobs that can make the mom pressure rise. Working inside the home, outside the home, and trying to juggle side hustles cause even more mom pressure triggers.
So, why as moms do we let the pressure get to us? We are tired, and we are worn out; we need to make the time to be refreshed, and we need a break.
TAKE THE BREAK!
Go for a walk, get a coffee with a friend, take a nap… Do what you need to do to release some of that mom pressure. In the great mom pressure cooker of life, if you don’t relieve the pressure (just like a real pressure cooker), you will BLOW! Taking it out on your kids, your partner, your job, and your responsibilities is easy to do but can be harmful for your relationships.
:: Here are a few ways where you can check yourself before you wreck yourself ::
- Recognize that you are feeling that mom pressure
- Take a deep breath
- Adjust expectations that you have for yourself
- Take a break
- Pick up where you left off, and do the best you can
When you really think about it, wearing a pair of Thursday undies on a Tuesday seems like even less of a big deal… I mean, at least he was WEARING undies, and I call that a MOM win!!!
Where are the areas of pressure you’re feeling in your life, how do you handle it currently, and what steps will you take now to help relieve some of that mom pressure?
