An Open Letter to My Daughter

0

My Dear Daughter,

Today, on National Daughters Day, and every day, I celebrate you. You are the light of my life. Your energy and spirit bring joy to all who encounter you. Having you as my daughter is more than I could have ever dreamed of.

Thank you for teaching me, every day, how to be a better Mommy to you.

Seeing the world through your eyes is absolutely magical; you are magic. Your awareness of yourself and others is so incredible at your age. When you tell me that you need a moment when you’re having a hard time is more than just needing a moment, it shows me that you know yourself and can express and do what you need to do; this is something many adults still struggle with daily.

I know I must drive you crazy at times, but please always know that Mommy is coming from a good place. I will always do my absolute best for you, and want nothing more than for you to have a healthy, happy, fulfilling life. In this crazy world that I brought you into, you are my number one responsibility and reason, and always will be.

You know how we tell each other that we are each other’s number one fans? I will always be your number one fan, but I also hope that you are your own number one fan, too. My hope is that you continue to boost your confidence and utilize all these strengths that you have. Your compassion, kindness and love are evident to everyone. Your intelligence, strength and humor will take you so far in life.

Life won’t always be perfect, but it is beautiful and we will live it to the fullest.

Our village has been incredible, and they all think you hung the moon, too. You make everyone feel so special, and that makes me so proud. These are all wonderful things, but what you think of yourself will always be most important. You have so much integrity and so many strong values within you, and it is so fun to watch you express them and thrive. Time is already flying by and I find myself coming back to the present when I drift off into thoughts of your future.

It is exciting and scary for a Mommy, but I have all the confidence in the world in you, and will always be right by your side.

Even at the age of 6 1/2, you have shown me how resilient you are through the tough times. Always remember that you won’t have to ever do life alone. Remember that your voice matters. Remember that it is healthy to let go of what doesn’t serve you. Remember no matter what, Mommy’s love for you will never waver. My sweet girl, I am so proud to be your Mommy. It is the greatest honor of my life. You have challenged me in some really tough ways, but so many amazing ways, which I know will be a huge part of why you will do amazing things in life.

The cliché rings true, “the world is yours”.

How cool is that? Thinking about this enormous world being in the palm of your hand. It is. Put your mind to it, and you will achieve it. Dream big and work hard. Make sure to always listen to yourself and do what feels right. Live in your truth. Live in the present. Continue to be the good, respectable person you are, who shows kindness and honesty. You are capable, you are strong, you are love.

Happy National Daughters Day, my love.

All my love, always and forever,
Your Mommy
