Raising My Boys Right… I Think

I’m raising my boys rights… I think.

I have three young boys and I try to offer a mommy date every so often so they can each have one-on-one time with me. The other day I had the chance to take my oldest to eat at a restaurant. We wore masks, were socially distanced from other guests, and had our temperature taken before entering. My oldest has become accustomed to the new norm and thoroughly enjoys these one-on-one events. He fills my ears on the car rides with his thoughts and feelings without having to fight to be heard over his two younger brothers.

Upon leaving, my son held the door open for the couple behind us. They smiled and thanked him for being so polite. Then, my son grabbed my arm and said he would escort me to our vehicle. As we approached our vehicle, he asked me to wait so he could open and close my car door for me. My heart almost exploded as I got in because I could not wait to tell people what a gentleman he was. During these uncertain times, I wonder what traits I am instilling in my boys.

I can honestly say that I must be doing something right. I’m raising my boy rights… I think.

Although some days I wonder if I made the right decision to stay home, I believe I have made the best decision for my boys. My most important job is shaping them into future leaders, citizens, and husbands. I always remind them of how to be a true gentleman to others and true friends to everyone.

For that, I know I’m doing my best in raising my boys right.

Are you raising young boys? Do you have days when you think to yourself, “Yes, I am raising them right!”
