“You can’t talk to her that way,” I said to my son after he screamed at Alexa.
My husband whispered to me, “You know she isn’t real, don’t you?”
I stopped for a moment and got deep really quick.
In the morning before school, we are TV-free. We try to minimize the distractions, and it makes things go much smoother.
There is an occasion where this mom is feeling a little sassy and may ask Alexa to play a certain song. In full disclosure, I normally do this to mortify my kiddos with my dancing and occasionally tell them that I am going to call our principal to see if I can come to dance on the stage for the whole school. I digress.
This particular morning, I asked Alexa to play Be Our Guest after a snide comment on my part that I was not going to deliver their breakfast to them, that they are not a guest in this house, and proceeded to play that song in my head so I asked our sweet Alexa to play it. The boys got their breakfast all while enjoying the song.
I retreated to my bathroom to apply the essential eyelash primer and mascara where I heard the offense happen. Within a matter of 10 seconds, my Max was screaming at Alexa, asking her to play Boom, to which she did not understand and kept playing something else, then he would tell her to stop and try again and again and again, which resulted in a full-on heated argument and yelling match between my son and a little black echo dot.
From the bathroom, I joined in the yelling and said, Max, ENOUGH!
I walked into the living room and told him, “You can’t talk to her that way” and then dropped some knowledge that I was not quite awake or caffeinated enough to drop but did it anyway.
I said, “Max, when you get angry and yell, it is hard to understand you and get your words across. Take a deep breath and let’s speak clearly, and try this again.”
“Alexa, play Boom.” And, she did. And, I shook what my momma gave me, and we learned a very important lesson.
My feet go boom boom boomBoom boom boom, boom boom boom My heart beats boom boom boom Boom boom boom, boom boom boom High speed, go zoom zoom zoom Zoom zoom zoom, zoom zoom zoom My feet go boom boom boom Walkin’ away from you
