What to Do with All Those Holiday Deliveries

I laugh and always say, “Get them a large box to play with instead of toys.” If you want to, you can start planning ahead; what to do with all those holiday deliveries!

I am not saying never buy your kids toys, but rather, buy ones that they can learn from. Most toys just have loud noises or bright lights. I have found those associated with STEM learning have been the most productive for them. You may say that those are the expensive ones, but I can find them in many household items especially boxes. My boys will build with any object they come across.

Here are a few examples of what you can do with all of those holiday deliveries!

Build a fort, cave, or castle!

You can incorporate blankets or pillows. My kids’ favorites are the kitchen chairs.

Play hide and go seek.

I mean, every kid wants to find the best hiding spot, but just make sure to find a large enough box.

Make yourself into a robot, creature, or costume aka boxtume.

One of my kids loves to do this and use paper towels or wrapping paper rolls as well.

Amazon has a program called #morethanabox that offers fun shapes for kids to cut out and play with on the flaps of the box.

You can even share your creations with them using that hashtag on social media!

Of course, the other options are to recycle them at your local recycling facility or look for someone moving to reuse them.

I hope this article helped spark some new ideas for all those shipping boxes we have become so accustomed to receiving the last few years. Please feel free to share your ideas or pictures of your kiddos using their boxes.

Tag us using #MomsAroundLouisville so we can share as well. We hope you enjoy the holidays this year with your friends and family!
